The Holy Innocents’ (HIES) Fine Arts Department has pulled in two Shuler Hensley Award nominations and seven honorable mentions for its memorable production of last fall’s “Once Upon a Mattress.” The HIES cast and production crew was nominated for Best Overall Production, and senior Payton Anderson was nominated for Leading Actress. Honorable mentions went to faculty member Maria Karres-Williams for Direction, Drew Andersen for Lead Actor, the cast for the Ensemble award, and staff member Harley Gould for Lighting Design and Technical Execution.
Fine Arts Department Chair Heidi Domescik also recognized Upper School Choir Director Tom FitzStephens and Production Assistant Prather Rehm for their work regarding the production.
The Shuler awards—formally the Georgia High School Musical Theater Awards—are named for award-winning actor Shuler Hensley, a Georgia native who made his Broadway debut in 2000. The “Shulers” celebrate the best in Georgia high school musical theater.
The awards ceremony, which takes place April 18 at the Cobb Energy Centre, will feature performances from Holy Innocents’ entire cast, as well as a solo from Payton Anderson.
