Grandmother Hurston’s Fool Proof Poundcake

Ingredients:

  • 2 sticks butter
  • ½ cup shortening
  • 3 cups sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 5 eggs
  • 3 cups sifted, plain, all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon almond extract

Directions:

Cream butter, shortening, and sugar until smooth.   Add salt and eggs one at a time.  Add flour/milk….begin and end with flour and alternate with milk.   Add vanilla and almond.   Grease and flour cake pan.  Pour batter into cake pan.   Put in a cold oven (not pre-heated) then set at 300 degrees and bake for 2 hours.
