Part-Time Volunteer Coordinator

Position Summary: Under the direction of the Director of Operations, the Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for overseeing Volunteer activities within the organization. This includes recruiting Volunteers, placing Volunteers in different roles based on their qualifications and maintaining accurate Volunteer records.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Volunteer Management:
Be responsible for planning, coordinating, scheduling and managing all Volunteer program activities within the organization
Assist with developing and maintaining a Volunteer training and orientation program
Conduct multiple recruitment sessions and recruit, educate, and select Volunteers
Orientate new Volunteers when they arrive for their shifts
Lead and guide Volunteers through their shifts
Assess appropriateness and performance of Volunteers in a timely manner
Maintain a calendar of Volunteer and service opportunities for the organization by proactively identifying weekly or monthly program work, and event needs to keep Volunteers engaged throughout the year
Respond to inbound inquiries related to individual Volunteering, group, or corporate Volunteering
Maintain appropriate program and Volunteer records and reports
Support management of Hands on Atlanta Volunteer platform
Coordinate facility tours for prospective Volunteers or visitors
Support content capture for our PR and marketing efforts
Other administrative and management duties as assigned

Community Buddies:
Support communications with Community Buddies (the organizations that pick up food from us to then deliver to their adopted schools)
Learn and execute system for preparing order summaries

Events:
Attend and support events as needed, may include weekends or after-hours
Support fulfillment of food drive programs/events
Assist with packing sessions
Recruit and engage event Volunteers for committee assignments, and event planning
The position requires travel as needed, especially with regards to events, along with travel across BPBMA’s regional service footprint as needed.

Minimum Requirements:
Solid organizational skills with attention to detail, accuracy, and follow-through in an independent, responsible manner
Skilled at facilitation and system collaboration, information sharing, and team building
Interest in and energy for Volunteerism and community building
Basic computer literacy, to be able to produce program materials and track Volunteer hours
Ability to represent Backpack Buddies of Metro Atlanta well
Valid Georgia driver’s license with vehicle insurance
Availability during weekday mornings and afternoons, along with occasional weekday evenings and weekend mornings. Hours may vary, but at minimum the below will be required during our open hours, in addition to some time on any weekday to respond to inquiries.
Mon. 8:30am-1:30pm
Wed. 8:30am-1:30pm
Fri. 8:30am-1:30pm

Education and/or Experience:
High School Diploma or GED
People management experience
