Kingswood Church announces that it welcomes Rev. Dr. Dana Everhart as senior pastor, effective June 30. Everhart replaces Rev. Charles Broome, who has served in that role since 2015. Rev. Broome celebrated his last Sunday at Kingswood Church on June 9. Retiring from full-time ministry, he and his wife June have relocated to Grovetown, Georgia, where he will serve as a chaplain at the Joseph M. Still Burn Center at Doctor’s Hospital in Augusta.
Bishop Robin Dease, who leads the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church, announced the pastoral change at the church’s Annual Conference.
Rev. Everhart said, “I am beyond excited to be appointed to Kingswood Church and becoming part of the Dunwoody community. God has amazing and wonderful plans for our time together, and I look forward to this new opportunity.”
Everhart has recently served as a Missional Specialist for 88 congregations in the Conference. He has also served in other denominational roles, including as director of the Center for Clergy Excellence and District Superintendent for the Atlanta Emory district, and previously held appointments at Atlanta-area churches including St. Mark United Methodist Church in Midtown and McDonough First United Methodist Church.
District Superintendent Rev. Dr. Byron Thomas noted that he “comes with years of pastoral experience and a passion for Christ, for the church, and for people,” in speaking about Everhart’s appointment. “He has a joyful and loving sprit, an engaging personality, and a humble spirit.”
He and his wife Sally are moving from Augusta have three adult children. Everhart felt called to ministry at an early age. Ordained in 1988, he comes to Kingswood Church with 36 years of pastoral experience.
“Kingswood Church is such a welcoming environment,” said Everhart. “My role as a new pastor isn’t to bring change, but to bring the message of God through scripture and prayer, and to work alongside the church’s leaders to carry out the church’s mission in ways that glorify God. There’s so much we can do together for the greater good of the community and the world.”
Kingswood will hold a reception to receive Rev. Everhart and Sally on their first Sunday. The entire community is invited to worship and stay to enjoy Kona Ice after the service at 11:00.
