DUNWOODY, GA, April 8, 2024 – In a significant development, Dunwoody Christian School (DCS), an accredited non-denominational private Christian school, is excited to announce a pivotal transition in the life of the school as it becomes an integral part of the First Baptist Atlanta (FBA) community. This move marks a strategic alignment of values and goals for both institutions, creating a foundation for the continued growth and success of DCS.
A 2022 article in a local newspaper illuminated FBA’s aspiration to utilize their property at 4400 N. Peachtree Rd. for various purposes, including the possible establishment of a school on their campus. This caught the attention of DCS leadership, which resulted in several months of constructive dialogue between the two organizations. It became apparent that the school’s success and desire for expansion aligned perfectly with FBA’s vision to establish a private Christian school on their 50+ acre campus. Realizing they shared a divine calling, the two organizations came to an agreement that FBA will fully adopt DCS and relocate the school to its campus. DCS will conclude its current 2023-2024 school year at its existing location at Dunwoody Baptist Church (DBC) while FBA is making arrangements to welcome DCS permanently onto its campus starting in the summer of 2024.
The school’s board of directors will soon transition the reins to FBA as it welcomes board representation from the church. DCS is also considering a possible name change to underscore its commitment to providing exceptional Christian education that transcends geographical boundaries. The school will remain non-denominational, and the board is committed to the preservation of the school’s legacy, academic excellence, and unwavering dedication to covenant Christian education. Dr. Kevin Jenkins, DCS Head of School, will continue his steadfast leadership of the institution under the auspices of FBA.
“This transition opens up new possibilities for DCS. Under the guidance and support of FBA, we will have an opportunity to design even better educational experiences for our students, continue hiring the best Christian teachers, plan strategically to add a high school and expand our athletic programs in the coming years. I am honored to lead our school into this exciting new era.”
– Dr. Kevin Jenkins, Head of School, Dunwoody Christian School
FBA eagerly anticipates the integration of DCS into its community, with preparations already underway to provide a seamless transition for students, parents, and staff. In Feb. 2024, DCS families enjoyed a first look at their new school home when FBA hosted parents and students for a tour and reception that included remarks from FBA Senior Pastor, Dr. Anthony George and Dr. Jenkins. The move signifies a shared commitment to fostering academic excellence, character development, and spiritual growth for students within a supportive and nurturing environment.
“Just like FBA, DCS has committed itself to upholding the authority of Holy Scripture and to instilling an uncompromising biblical worldview into the minds and hearts of their students. There are not enough words to express my gratitude to God and to the board of DCS for giving FBA the opportunity to steward such a treasure as the Dunwoody Christian School.”
– Dr. Anthony George, Senior Pastor, First Baptist Atlanta
The history of Dunwoody Christian School is intertwined with the vision and mission it has firmly pursued since its inception. In 2018, DCS first opened its doors to students in grades K-2. After strategically expanding by one grade per year, it outgrew its original home at Dunwoody Community Church, and relocated to DBC in 2021. The move marked a pivotal moment for DCS by strengthening the school’s foundation and expanding its reach within the community. The school found a supportive home at DBC, as the school leased space there for the last three years and was able to expand into middle school grades. DCS is grateful to the DBC family and leadership for their unwavering support, which has prepared the way and laid the groundwork for the next phase of the school’s journey.
“The move to FBA is a great step for DCS as it continues its vision and mission within Dunwoody and the surrounding communities. DCS has been a blessing to the DBC community. We look forward to watching God continue to work through Christian education at DCS.”
– Dr. Allen Jackson, Senior Pastor, Dunwoody Baptist Church
As DCS concludes its current school year, the institution is poised for a smooth transition to its new home at FBA, ensuring a continuation of its legacy and a bright future for its students. The permanent campus at FBA will be ready to welcome students for the upcoming academic year, commencing in August 2024. By leveraging the resources and support of First Baptist Atlanta, the school aims to expand its reach and continue its vision to become one of the most respected K-12 covenant Christian private schools in Georgia.
