From March 22-24, 2024, Congregation Or VeShalom welcomes the community to a weekend
long Purim & Sephardic Heritage Festival. With special guests Chef Susan Barocas and Sarah Aroeste, Ladino singer and author, weaving food and music throughout the weekend, guests will enjoy all aspects of Sephardic life.

3/22
— A musical Kabbalat Shabbat experience followed by a richly flavored traditional
Turkish-Jewish Shabbat Dinner, featuring recipes by Chef Susan Barocas and
Ladino songs with Sarah Aroeste.
3/23
— Tot Shabbat with Sarah and Services featuring special d’vrei torah delivered by
Sarah and Susan and featuring Sarah’s Ladino musical influence.
Sephardic-Mezze Kiddush Lunch, also featuring recipes by Chef Susan.
— Evening Cooking Class by Susan, followed by reading of the Purim Megillah.
3/24
— Bureka Bake Off – guests are invited to watch the bakers compete against each other, attempting to impress the judges and guests, who will both sample the entries and vote on winners in various categories! The Bureka Bake Off will feature: Up to 12 teams or individual bakers; Bakeoff Emcee Keith Pepper, Rough Draft Atlanta; and Special Guest Bake-off Judges: chef & restauranteur Shai Lavi, chef & restauranteur Todd Ginsberg, Sarah Aroeste, Susan Barocas, and OVS’s Rabbi Hearshen.
— Purim Carnival featuring Gaga (Israeli Dodgeball), face painting, crafts, inflatable slide, food available for purchase, and more!
— Megillah Reading
— PJ Library family program with Sarah Aroeste featuring Ladino children’s songs,
books, games, and more!
SAVOR, co-founded by Chef Susan Barocas and Sarah Aroeste, is a Sephardic music and food experience. Sarah explains, “What we do best through SAVOR is to help people to experience, participate, and engage with the beauty and breadth of Sephardic history, culture, and language through food and music, using all of their senses.”
