Dunwoody Arts & Culture Month Returns with New Public Art Installations
Month-Long Celebration Showcases Destination’s Flourishing Art Scene, Diverse Partners
DUNWOODY, Ga. – October 11, 2023 – The City of Dunwoody, a thriving Atlanta suburb just north of Atlanta, today announced several new public art initiatives and festivities as part of Dunwoody Arts & Culture Month this month – an annual celebration for locals and tourists alike to immerse themselves in the community’s rich art, culture and nature.
“With an impressive line-up of public art displays and events, Dunwoody Arts & Culture Month consistently generates excitement among our residents,” said Dunwoody Economic Development Director Michael Starling. “We are fortunate to be surrounded by so many artistic treasures, and we look forward to showcasing our arts and culture partners who continually enrich our vibrant community.”
Marking the start of Arts & Culture Month, Dunwoody Parks and Recreation reinstated the Black History Month and Women’s History Month murals at Brook Run Skate Park.

New public art initiatives and activities include:
AMPLIFY Mural Unveiling at the Spruill Gallery Smoke House Wall
On Saturday, October 14, the Spruill Center for the Arts will unveil its fourth annual AMPLIFY mural installation at the Spruill Gallery. Selected from applicants nationwide, Charity Hamidullah is this year’s winning AMPLIFY artist and will reveal her artwork to attendees at the Spirits for Spruill event. Taking place from 4 to 7 p.m., the celebration will feature live music by the BFG band, spirits by Post Meridiem, cuisine by Renzo’s Fire and the mural unveiling. AMPLIFY murals have become beloved Dunwoody landmarks due to their high caliber of artistry and visibility on the Spruill Smoke House wall at the intersection of Ashford Dunwoody Road and Meadow Lane. Tickets to Spirits for Spruill and the AMPLIFY unveiling are $45 and can be purchased online.
New Public Art at Brook Run Park
On Thursday, October 19 at 5 p.m., Dunwoody City Council, Parks and Recreation and the Dunwoody Art Commission will unveil the sister sculpture to Grounded Growth. It features one awe-inspiring flower with wide leaves that serve as benches. Designed and fabricated by Dunwoody artist Huelani Mei Fogleman, the new artistic and functional sculpture is located near the Great Lawn and Amphitheater, directly across from Grounded Growth, which serves as a bike rack for residents and visitors. Also created by Fogelman, the artistic sculpture comprises three flowers, each 10 to 15 feet in height, with the centers crafted from recycled bicycle wheels.
Diwali in Dunwoody
Presented by Create Dunwoody, celebrating Diwali in Dunwoody, two new interactive and educational workshops will be offered: Rangoli and Diya Art Workshops. Scheduled for Sunday, October 29, at the Spruill Center for the Arts, each session will last one hour. Participants will have the opportunity to create and design their own rangoli and diya, gaining insights into Indian culture and the significance of each art form. Tickets are priced at $13 and can be purchased online.
After the conclusion of the official Arts & Culture Month, Diwali in Dunwoody continues on Wednesday, November 1, at the Dunwoody Nature Center with an immersive storytelling forest walk in collaboration with Dunwoody Nature Center, Stage Door Theatre and East by Southeast. Guests will experience a vibrant reenactment of ‘The Story of Diwali,’ celebrating lights, joy and triumph over darkness. Tickets, with prices ranging from $10 to $15, can also be purchased online.
In addition to the numerous public art initiatives taking place throughout October, the largest mural in Dunwoody, titled ‘Flora Chroma,’ was also recently unveiled to the community. Painted by DAAS, the monumental mural spans an impressive 2,500-square-feet on the south side of the Dunwoody MARTA station parking garage, further enhancing the destination’s public art scene.
