OHMYGOD YOU GUYS! CITY SPRINGS THEATRE’S AWARD-WINNING CONSERVATORY BRINGS LEGALLY BLONDE THE MUSICAL JR. TO SANDY SPRINGS
38 Students from Across Metro Atlanta Show How Believing in Yourself Never Goes Out of Style!
Sandy Springs, GA, – City Springs Theatre Conservatory, the arts education training arm of the City Springs Theatre Company, is proud to announce its 2023 production, presented by Delta Community Credit Union. Directed by Junior Theater Festival award-winner Haden Rider and Arielle Geller, “Legally Blonde The Musical JR. ” will run for three performances on August 25 and 26 in the Studio Theatre at the Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center (1 Galambos Way, Sandy Springs).
Based on the award-winning Broadway Musical and beloved film featuring Reese Witherspoon, Legally Blonde The Musical JR. takes audiences on a delightful journey of self-empowerment and discovery with the iconic Elle Woods as she takes on stereotypes, snobbery and scandal as she pursues her dreams. The production’s infectious music and lyrics, written by Laurence O’Keefe & Nell Benjamin, are brimming with wit and sass. The treasured tale is from the book by Heather Hach.
The production unfolds as Elle is dumped by her boyfriend, Warner, because he’s going to Harvard Law School and claims she’s not “serious” enough. Instead of accepting his assumption, she seizes the day and gets into law school as well. There she befriends classmates, the teacher’s assistant, Emmett, and a spunky hairdresser, Paulette. Along the way she realizes that books and looks aren’t mutually exclusive. As Elle begins outsmarting her peers, she discovers that she may be destined for a career in law after all.
In just the five years since it was founded, City Springs Theatre Conservatory has served more than 124,000 Atlanta-area students with educational programs, including student matinees and in-class virtual programming. The Conservatory includes a pre-professional program, a summer high school musical, a college preparatory program, and private lesson training in voice, acting, and dance, as well as annual participation in the international Junior Theater Festival. This summer alone, more than 500 students took part in Conservatory programs for elementary, middle and high school students.
“This dynamic cast are all members of our conservatory program, where in addition to bringing this beloved production to life, they work throughout the year on honing their acting, dancing and singing skills to pursue their passion for musical theatre,” said Executive Director Natalie DeLancey. “As we prepare the next generation of musical theatre talent, we provide them with an array of opportunities, including performing on stage in our professional productions for City Springs Theatre Company!”
