This note from Mayor Lynn Deutsch is copied from the City of Dunwoody eNewsletter dated 3/5/2021
As we approach the year anniversary of when we really felt the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in Georgia, I am pleased to report that the data continues to point to an easing of the virus in our city, county and state. In fact, earlier this week, the positivity rate in Georgia was 5.4%. Last week, Dunwoody had its lowest number of new cases since the beginning of November. But as Governor Kemp says, we need to continue to buckle down – we all know what we need to do at this point.
I want to provide you with my strategies for locating vaccine availability. Please make sure you are updated on what your medical providers are offering. Northside, Kaiser Permanente, Emory, and Piedmont (and others) are providing the vaccine to their patients and often others. Many of them are keeping a wait list and will contact you once eligible. In fact, Piedmont is opening a vaccine site in the Perimeter Pointe shopping center next week.
Next go here: www.dunwoodyga.gov/vaccine. Create an account with each of the commercial providers listed on the site – Publix, Walmart, etc. When you become eligible, make sure you have bookmarked each of their sites, and check them regularly. Check outside the core of Metro Atlanta – there are often appointments available farther away. Make sure you have registered at https://myvaccinegeorgia.com/ for the state mega-sites.
Over the next few weeks, the state will expand the number of sites from 4 to 9. If you register, you will receive an email each time the criteria changes. When it is your turn, you will be able to register. If you are capable and comfortable driving, consider setting an appointment at one of the options other than Hapeville. (As I write this late last night, there are still appointments everywhere but Hapeville for next week.)
While I can’t assist everyone personally in finding an appointment, I will continue to help those 65 and older who are struggling with finding a vaccine (77% of Covid-19 deaths in Georgia were in people 65 and over). If you or a loved one are 65+ and still need the vaccine, please email me at Lynn.Deutsch@dunwoodyga.gov. And don’t forget to stay home if you don’t feel well, avoid crowds, socially distance, wear your mask, and wash your hands.
