The Sandy Springs Society’s Evening of Elegance

The Sandy Springs Society (The Society) will proudly feature Vince and Barbara Dooley and artist Steve PENLEY as honorary chairs for The Evening of Elegance, Thursday, Nov. 5. This evening will continue a decade-long tradition of this preeminent holiday event’s support for local nonprofit organizations. The Evening of Elegance typically precedes The Society’s premier fundraiser, The Elegant Elf Marketplace, a two-day gift market postponed this year due to COVID-19 concerns. Shoppers can look forward to the market’s return in 2021.

“Barbara and I are thrilled to support The Sandy Springs Society in their efforts to help the community during this difficult time,” said Coach Dooley, former UGA head football coach. “It’s so important that we all come together to support each other however we can right now, and this charitable group of women are an outstanding example of what can happen when good people come together to help. I am proud to share this wonderful event for a great cause with our good friend Steve PENLEY.”

The Evening of Elegance will provide a fun way to make some spectacular purchases this holiday season. It will feature a live and silent auction, with items such as vacation homes and experiences, artwork, golf packages and jewelry, including an original painting by Steve PENLEY at the live auction and a reproduction museum quality painting of Sanford Stadium, which PENLEY will embellish during the evening and will be signed by him and Coach Dooley.

Coach Dooley and PENLEY will also offer signed copies of “Dooley’s Playbook: the 34 (and more) most memorable plays in Georgia football history” online, as well as UGA-themed prints, canvases and gifts. Orders will be shipped within two weeks or may be picked up at the PENLEY Art Gallery at 102 W. Paces Ferry Rd. in Buckhead after Wednesday, Nov. 11.

The 2020 Evening of Elegance Chair team includes: Jane Stallman, event chair along with co-chairs Valerie Love, Deede Stephenson, Barb Mutz, Emily Gadrix, Clanci Jordan and Toni Stoughton. Donna Glenn will serve as auctioneer.

“We are tremendously honored and grateful to have Vince and Barbara Dooley and Steve PENLEY as our Honorary Chairs for this event. At a time when the needs of our community are greater than ever, they have donated their presence and support,” said Valerie Love, Auction Co-Chair.

All proceeds from The Evening of Elegance will be reinvested in the local Sandy Springs community. The Society awards grants annually as part of their mission to support programs that improve the quality of life for the residents of Sandy Springs. Through its annual grant process, The Society supports nonprofits in the community that promote social services, education, the environment, the arts, and heritage.

To date, The Society has awarded grants totaling more than $4 million.

The Society raises money for its grants through fundraisers, corporate and foundation sponsorships, membership dues and other contributions. Premier fundraisers include The Elegant Elf Marketplace in November and Tossed Out Treasures each spring.

“The Society is proud of the local impact we have with grants to organizations that contribute a tremendous amount of good work every year to improve the quality of life of the residents of Sandy Springs.” said Susan Sutterfield, President of The Society. “We are continuing to work tirelessly and creatively to help the community when there are so many Sandy Springs residents impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.”
