To protect against COVID-19, the City of Dunwoody invites members of the community to share in this year’s Memorial Day Ceremony from home.
Dunwoody, GA – May 20, 2020 – The City of Dunwoody Parks and Recreation Department is organizing a virtual Memorial Day Ceremony to keep the community safe, while honoring military personnel who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. The pre-recorded video will premiere on social media at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 25.
“We can’t gather as we traditionally do on Memorial Day,” said Dunwoody Mayor Lynn Deutsch. “But this year’s program will be as important as ever. We want to make it clear that even in these unprecedented times, we will never forget those who sacrificed their lives for their country and our freedom.”
Mayor Deutsch will share a special message during the virtual ceremony, which will include an original song composed and performed by Jill Hudson, a former Dunwoody resident. The Pledge of Allegiance will be led by City Council Member Joe Seconder, a retired U.S. Army Infantry Major and Iraqi Freedom Combat Veteran.
City Council Member Pam Tallmadge will introduce a moment of silence, and Rev. Josh Amerson, associate pastor at Dunwoody United Methodist Church, will give the Invocation. The ceremony will also include special music recorded on May 24, 2019, by the Dunwoody Baptist Church Celebration Choir and Orchestra.
Wayne Radloff, a retired U.S. Navy Captain, member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Committee and Dunwoody resident, played an important role in planning the virtual presentation.
