would lose because we have an unfounded competitiveness and we eat A LOT of
ice cream. There is no doubt that we love Brusters; you’ve probably seen us
there; we see everyone there, but here are some local places that also have
ice cream that we love.
Morelli’s (inside of Farm Burger in Georgetown Shopping Center) has some truly gourmet flavors they
rotate like Brooklyn Cheesecake, Flan Caramello, Blueberry Corncake and
Ginger Lavender, but also all the kid favorites like Fruity Pebbles, Krisy
Kreamier, PB&J and Oreo.
Novo Cucina (5592 Chamblee Dunwoody Rd) has amazing gelato. There are few
things I love more in Dunwoody than the pistachio gelato at Novo. It’s a
delicious and super smooth gelato made with a rich, italian pistachio paste
and has this lovely roasted flavor. Sometimes I go to Novo without my kids
and eat gelato by myself. Novo offers a number of gelatos like
Stracciatella, Almond Joy and Malted Milk Ball as well as sorbettos such as
Ginger Peach, Blackberry Lemonade, and Dark Chocolate.
Roll It Up (5150 Buford Hwy NE d110, Doraville, GA 30340) is one of the
closest in the Thai rolled ice cream craze. This snack which is popular in
Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia and the Philippines, pours a cream base onto
an ice cold metal block and is rolled up and topped with a variety of
candy, fruit and/or syrups. My kids love this place but some kids aren’t
used to the less sweet, slightly icey texture of the base. I also love that
they now make waffle tacos for rolled ice cream tacos.
Kwality Ice Cream (6631 Roswell Rd D, Sandy Springs, in the Publix shopping
center) is an Indian Ice Cream parlor in Sandy Spring right next to
Bawarchi Biryanis. According to their website, “the idea behind the all
natural ice cream is simple. Kwality Ice Cream is the quintessence of what
a super premium ethnic ice cream should be.” They don’t use eggs in the ice
cream but still manage to produce a super creamy, flavorful product daily.
They have so many flavors that are people pleasing like Ferrero Rocher,
Cookies and Cream and Dulce de Leche, but then like, all these amazing,
cool flavors like Fig and Walnut, Cardamom Pistachio, Zesty Ginger and
Sitafal with my daughter’s favorite being mulberry?
Other Townsend favorites include Rita’s and Southern Custard in Brookhaven,
Frosty Caboose in Chamblee and the shaved ice at the Bon Glaze in Buckhead.
