It’s a little-known fact in Sandy Springs that on top of the Sandy Springs Society Gazebo, on the lawn of the original Spring, sits a weathervane that was donated by Joey and Frances Glenn Mayson, who were instrumental in founding Heritage Sandy Springs Museum and Park. The weathervane comes from one of the original barns at Churchill Downs, home of the Kentucky Derby, the most celebrated event in horse racing and a life-changing achievement for every winning horse, owner, trainer and jockey.
Heritage Sandy Springs will host a fundraising event, Jockeys & Juleps on May 4, 4-9 p.m. at the Heritage Sandy Springs Museum and Park at 6110 Blue Stone Road NE.
Featuring Derby themed cocktails: drink, eat, listen and dance to the Mike Veal Band, enter raffles, win a hat and bowtie contest, “bet” at the “Sportsbook,” and catch the live-streaming of the 145th Run for the Roses. Jockeys & Juleps event is an opportunity to directly support Heritage Sandy Springs, keeping the history, education, culture, and community of Sandy Springs alive.
“We encourage everyone to come to this one-of-a-kind gathering in their biggest and best hats and their wildest bowties,” said Karen Trylovick, Heritage Sandy Springs Museum and Park board member and Jockeys & Juleps Chair. “We are eager to raise money for Heritage Sandy Springs Museum and Park and provide an exciting way to experience the Kentucky Derby for the community. It’s going to be a very fun night!”
