Sandy Springs, Georgia, (January 16, 2019) – As part of their mission to promote history and enhance the cultural identity of Sandy Springs, Heritage Sandy Springs is happy to present a variety of programming for residents and visitors to the community throughout the year. This year’s upcoming programs are targeted to a wide variety of audiences including reading enthusiasts, scout troops, homeschool students, and history buffs.
“As we look ahead, we want the Heritage Sandy Springs Museum to be more than just a building with stories hanging on the walls,” said Keith Moore, the organization’s Director of Curatorial & Educational Affairs. “We’re combining local history, art, and folk-art all in one place. We’ve expanded our current offerings and created new programming to help make history more relatable to the Sandy Springs community, utilizing every facet at our disposal: collection materials, guided tours, special programs, and our historic property at Heritage Green. Our goal is to extend our reach into more local schools, the homeschool community, and area scout groups to share the history and culture of our beloved community.”

Titles @ Twilight: Feb 6, Mar 6, Apr 3, May 1, Jun 5, Jul 3, Aug 7, Sep 4, Oct 2, Nov 6 (6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.)
Titles @ Twilight is a FREE book series promoting local authors, whose stories of history and the South represent a variety of perspectives. This program is geared towards adults and takes place monthly on Wednesday evenings in the Community Room at the Heritage Sandy Springs administrative building. Complimentary refreshments are provided! Featured authors for the first half of 2019 include Roger Johns, Deborah Mantella, Margery Diamond, Dr. William Rawlings, and Rona Simmons.
AMERICAN GIRL® & BOY CLUB: Jan 26, Feb 23, Mar 30, Apr 27, May 25, Jun 29, Jul 27, Aug 31, Sep 21, Oct 26, Nov 16 (10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.)
This co-ed monthly program lets kids travel through time via the perspectives of the brave and spunky history characters of the beloved book series, learning history in an interactive and fun way. Each Saturday morning program includes a hands-on activity, craft, and snack. This program is best-suited for ages 5-12 and online registration is highly recommended. The fees are $8 advance for members of Heritage Sandy Springs, $10 advance for non-members, or $15 at the door. American Girl® & Boy Club is held in the Garden Room below the Heritage Sandy Springs Museum, in the historic Williams-Payne House.
BADGE DAYS: Apr 20, Jul 20, Oct 19 (10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.)
Explore the historic park, museum exhibitions, and archival resources to earn Girl and Boy Scout badges and complete Cub Scout Adventures! Badge Days offered at Heritage Sandy Springs are either self-guided or instructive experiences. All activities are based on the prescribed requirements set by the Boy Scouts of America and the Girls Scouts of the United States of America. The fees are $10 per scout, $5 per parent/chaperone, $5 per non-scout children ages 6-17, and free for children 5 and under. Advance registration with payment is required.
HOMESCHOOL DAYS: Feb 15, May 17, Aug 16, Nov 15 (10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.)
Homeschool Days at the Heritage Sandy Springs Museum are designed for the unique educational needs of homeschool students, who will spend an afternoon enjoying local history through facilitated activities and play-based learning. These special days allow home-schoolers in grades 1-5 to explore the featured exhibits, investigate collections up close, participate in hands-on activities, and tour exhibits with Museum docents or Education staff. The fees are $10 per student and $5 per teacher/parent. Advance registration with payment is required.
“history speaks” wwii lecture series: May 22, Jun 19, Jul 24, Aug 21 (6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.)
Join Heritage Sandy Springs for a summer lecture series commemorating the 75th anniversary of D-Day, which changed the tide of World War II. Each month, a new speaker will discuss a different topic associated with the war. More details will soon be forthcoming. This series is geared towards adults and will take place in the Community Room at the Heritage Sandy Springs administrative building.
Heritage Sandy Springs also offers in-school and off-site field trips for elementary classes.
