The Senior Men of Dunwoody Country Club, AKA the Champions Golf Association, have made a record net $265,000 contribution to the Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University for prostate cancer research. A dollar for dollar match by Winship through their own fundraising efforts brought the net grand total to $530,000.
Gross revenue from fundraising initiatives throughout the year totaled $310,000., also a record, according to David Andersen, Chairman of Champions Fundraising Initiatives.
Andersen said the year 2018 was the 22nd year the Champions have conducted fundraising campaigns for prostate cancer research. More than $1.3 million has been directly contributed to Winship since 2010.
Fundraising initiatives this year included a wine tasting dinner, a golf outing, silent-live auctions, raffles, sponsorships, and personal contributions. Major sponsors included Audi Atlanta, The Billi Marcus Foundation, Holder Construction, The Kauffman Foundation, Piedmont Bank, and Total Wine & More.
Some 20 men and women comprise a voluntary committee dedicated to fundraising to find a cure for prostate cancer, second only to skin cancer as the most common cancer in American men, according to Andersen.
