This weekend is the 50th Anniversary of Burt’s Pumpkin Farm, in Dawson County.
Insight: In 1972, local couple Johnny and Kathy Burt had the idea to grow and sell pumpkins from their front yard as a way to turn a hobby into a little extra money. In the 50 years since then, what started as a hobby has turned into a family-run business that is a staple of Dawson County.
Today, the Burt family still runs and operates Burt’s Pumpkin Farm, which has grown exponentially each year – nowadays, they grow about 60 acres of pumpkins or about 150,000 pumpkins.
On October 22 and 23, they will be having a 50th Anniversary event with All Star Kid (a new children’s brand that creates fresh, modern, and culturally relevant educational content in the form of music, books, and live events). All Star Kid recently released sophomore album for the holidays entitled, “A Thankfully Spooktacular Christmas“ has reached to Top 40 in the Children’s Musiccategory on iTunes!
All Star Kids mascots will be performing and greeting families and kids of all ages during the weekend!
