Heritage Sandy Springs Announces 2018 Concerts by the Springs Series

Heritage Sandy Springs has announced the lineup for the 2018 season of Concerts by the Springs, a free summer concert series held one Sunday evening each month, May through September. Now celebrating its 22nd season, Concerts by the Springs is a beloved tradition that brings the community together in a beautiful setting. Concerts are held from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. on the Sandy Springs Society Entertainment Lawn at Heritage Green, located at 6110 Blue Stone Road in Sandy Springs.

The 2018 season of Concerts by the Springs features five unforgettable performances, offering something for all ages:

May 13 – Banks & Shane (Multi-Genre)
June 10 –
Swingin’ Medallions (Beach Favorites)
July 8 – Gwen Hughes & The Kats (Jazz / R&B)
August 12 –
Electric Avenue (80s Hits)
September 9 – Bogey & The Viceroy (Funky Soul)

“I can’t decide which performance I am most looking forward to,” said Carol Thompson, Executive Director of Heritage Sandy Springs. “This year’s bands are all returning to Concerts by the Springs – back by popular demand and because they love playing for the awesome crowds at the Sandy Springs Society Entertainment Lawn – and they are going to rock the park!”

Concerts by the Springs will kick off on Mother’s Day with crowd favorite Banks & Shane, a high-energy, hard-kicking band that has audiences around the world dancing in the aisles to popular favorites and reminiscing with memorable ballads. No matter your age, Banks and Shane transports fans back to Spring Break. This world-renowned band has played with and opened for some of the biggest acts in history. So legendary is the band that their fans from around the world are self-proclaimed “Banks & Shaners.”

June will bring the Swingin’ Medallions back to Sandy Springs for the first time in six years. The Swingin’ Medallions – playing a mix of beach music, frat rock, R&B, and Carolina shaggin’ music – have been around since the early 1960’s. Their song Double Shot (of My Baby’s Love) became a million seller in 1966 and has been a college party classic for decades. While the band members have changed over time, the high-energy stage performance has remained consistent, earning the Swingin’ Medallions the title of “Party Band of the South.”

In July, Gwen Hughes & The Katz will entertain the crowd with a unique mix from Coltrane to KC & the Sunshine Band to Motown to Taylor Swift, and everything in between. A veteran on the Southeast music scene, Gwen Hughes is one of the busiest bandleaders in Atlanta, along the way being named “Favorite Jazz Artist” by the readers of Creative Loafing magazine and taking her act overseas to France, Eastern Europe, and Turkey. The rest of the “Kats” are equally impressive; collectively these musicians have nearly a century of experience and have played all over the world.

Electric Avenue will bring the 80’s MTV Experience to Sandy Springs in August. The most accurate and exciting 80’s Pop Tribute you’ll find, Electric Avenue delivers spot-on renditions of Tears for Fears, Wham, Duran Duran, Simple Minds, INXS, Prince, The Clash, David Bowie and more! These 20-year touring veterans have shared the stage and studio with artists like Toto, Emmy Lou Harris, Alanis Morissette, Don Henley, Sheryl Crow, Sugarland, Michael Buble, John Mayer, Boston, Lionel Richie, and Paul Simon. Their performances make you feel like the star of your own John Hughes film!

The 2018 season will close out in September with Bogey & The Viceroy, a true crowd pleaser making their third appearance at Concerts by the Springs. Covering classic soul from every era, along with retro rock/pop to today’s current chart-toppers, New Orleans native Bogey Thornton and the handsome troubadours of The Viceroy ply their trade with much derring-do. Bogey & the Viceroy are best-known for their upbeat party music with a rockin’ rhythm section and a smooth, soulful sound. Their versatile performances always lead to packed dance floors and good times!

Concertgoers are encouraged to arrive early to picnic with family and friends. Gates open at 5:00 p.m. Blankets, lawn chairs, and coolers are welcomed; no outside tables permitted. Additional food will be available for purchase from specialty food vendors and food trucks. Beer, wine, sodas, and water will be available for sale, with proceeds benefiting Heritage Sandy Springs. Smoking is prohibited. No pets, except for special assist animals.
